2012 - The Year I Write 4 Novels

Now that 2011 has come and gone, I can look back and smile at what I have accomplished. Go ahead, smile with me.

During the course of the year, I went from planning on finishing the first book for Miscorrection to doing so much more. I also wrote five short stories and a novel under a pen name. In total, I wrote about 185,000 words this year and learned more than I ever thought I would.

I've also met some great online writer friends like Jeff Ambrose and Steve Umstead. Jeff's been integral in helping me learn more about writing, offering tips and tricks and books to read to help my craft. Steve, through writing his Gabriel Trilogy, has shown me that you can write three novels in a year. Plus, I've watched his marketing and see that it has paid off for him.

As I look to 2012, I need to top what I did this year. So here is my goal. I plan to write and self-publish four novels in 2012. Two of the novels will finish up the Miscorrection trilogy. The other two novels will be in the Fram Gage series under my pen name Desmond Shepherd.

Can I do it? I think so. It will require that I write in the neighborhood of 300,000 words. A couple of years ago, that sounded like a lot. Now? It definitely sounds doable.

So 2012 ... it's an important year. It's going to be the year in which I write four novels.

Smile! :)

Designing a Book Cover - The Third Layer

In my last post, I spoke about "The Second Layer" of designing a book cover, which is making sure you title stands out well.  Now we head to "The Third Layer". This one probably will seem obvious and it complements "The Second Layer" . It is your author name. It's important that your author name be positioned and sized correctly. There are a few approaches to this. For well known authors—for instance Stephen King or James Patterson—having the author name prominent and big on the cover is good. The reason is, their names are so popular that the author name sells the book more so than the book title sells it. As a self-published author you could use this thought process for your cover to give the impression that you are a popular author. Of course, your mileage will vary with this approach. The other option is to not allow the author name to dominate the content. So you would want it to be smaller than the title. You could even make it barely noticeable

Shadow Drop!

What's this? A shadow drop release of Fram Gage and The Infinite Ability  on audiobook? You better believe it! Originally, I had hoped to release this last fall, but with some unexpected delays, it didn't work out. Then, with the writing, editing and so forth of The Legend of Kyd Lumin  added into the mix, I didn't get much of a chance to talk up this release. Voiced by Michel Young , who also read the  Imaginary Me  audiobook, this adventurous tale follows Fram Gage and his friends as they try to survive a competition gone wrong in The Ability Chamber. This story is fun for all ages and family-friendly. You can pick up your copy now on  Audible  or  iTunes ! Enjoy!
